Extra Long Web Pages

This is what I call a TAPE WORM

And you know what tape worms do?   They eat up everything.

Foot Ball FieldVery long one page web sites are really bad for readers.
A web page that goes on and on... bores most people before you even get 1/4 of the way through the page. To me these pages are longer than a football field (100 yards). And it reminds me of reading a law book. They take 100 yards to say what could have been said in a web page 1/10th the length with out all the hype. I do not recommend this type of page for any one. You do not hold the attention of the reader long enough for sales, no matter what it says on top.

Most of these pages often have a great deal of Hype in these pages. By most web experts state that these long web pages are really bad, since most people do not have the patience to keep scrolling down and down and down. If they do have the stamina to go all the way to the bottom you are really frustrated and possibly don't care any more. On the other hand, the ones who have these type of web sites claim that these are the best kinds of sites to have due to the fact that most people being lazy, will scroll and scroll and won't click on a link to your other pages. Personally I don't have the patience to deal with that long of a page, and will go to the bottom to see the bottom line or just close this page. They lost me very quickly and you want your readers to stay on your site as long as possible.

I have read many of these pages and these guys that have these web sites are always claiming to make $10,000 to $50,000 each and every week with a fool proof system, but they won't tell you what the system is. They state just enough to try to gain your attention, but after you scroll down about 20 yards worth (which is equal to 3 to 4 pages), most people get very bored with the whole thing and exit. I am not sure how they do that since most people will not stay long enough to find out what message they are getting across. They all claim that they are making big dollars with their system. The biggest thing that many people have come to believe is that most of these pages are scams of some form. So I always recommend to stay away from creating a TAPE WORM web sites (page).

With these very long web pages, initially it looks like they only have one product to sell and usually sold for an inexpensive price. But the bottom line is that once you pay that small price for this product, they got you. They got you on their data base to keep sending you more information to sell a much larger product and a much greater price. Once you click on the larger ticket items they they are selling, you will notice it is another TAPE WORM page with more hype, which involves testimonials of several other people (which can be created from out of thin air) and photos of their alleged actual earnings in one month. Most businesses like these are usually a home based business and they may or may not be legitimate, but one this is sure; you don't know who they are or where to find them if you need to. Every thing is done by a 3rd party, you pay through a 3rd party vendor like Pay Pal, and do not give you a way to contact them directly and if they do include a phone number or email address, usually it takes a long time to hear back from them. Most of them claim that they have the answer to the road to millions of dollars.

The best rule is to stay away from these type of web pages since your readers will leave your site too quickly and you won't have a chance to get to sell them your product.

With most businesses, a good well written web site containing multiple pages and links to other web pages relating to other similar web sites is the best way to convey your information. If the reader wants to read the testimonials, cost (which is always at the bottom), or any other information, the reader will click on that tab.

You will get the same thing and more accomplished with a normal multiple page web site so more sales can be made. Which should be your business goal.

To the left are some examples of what I do avoid in designing web sites.  The belief is the keep it clean and to the point without any unnecessary graphics and too many words on each of your pages.
